With every new teaching scenario I face, I learn

I believe my greatest skill as a tutor is the ability to access that feeling of being new to something all over again. To be able to empathise with a student’s situation – their anxiety, their vulnerability, their frustration – connects me in the moment with them. This enables me to hone in on a student’s hang-ups and then use my diverse array of tools to ease their struggle.

Together we learn and together we succeed

Along our journey together, we’ll pause to celebrate the smallest of achievements (which we’ll discover are the greatest), we’ll reflect on the milestones we’ve passed en route and we’ll discuss how best to proceed along our path to success. Learning with me is collaborative – it’s far more fun that way!

Wherever you are in the world

Most of my teaching is done online via Skype. Although based in the UK, I have been lucky enough to meet students from all over the world including Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Canada and the USA. All you need is a stable internet connection and a device with a webcam and built in microphone. Check out my FAQ page to find out more.

Creating community

I cannot stress enough the importance of group learning. For students who live locally, I host a monthly Melodeon Meet at my house. Designed to encourage students out of their solitude and into a supportive, sociable surrounding where they can share their struggles and successes with one another.

For UK students further afield, I offer bespoke one or two day small group Melodeon Meets at your house tailored around the group’s goals and desires. If you are interested in hosting a Melodeon Meet please contact me for more details.

All of my students past and present who use Facebook automatically become part of the illustrious VIP group that is Mel’s Angels. An online social platform for sharing news, advice, progress reports and arranging meet-ups.
