Fortnightly small group online classes for improver, intermediate and advanced DG melodeon players

Are you looking for motivation and support to take your melodeon playing to the next level?

Online group classes allow you to receive tuition from me in a direct and effective manner. During the Zoom class, you will all be muted, so nobody else will hear you play. However, you will have several opportunities to unmute and ask questions as we go along.

Due to the fact that you are muted, everyone can clearly hear me and follow the steps being covered. I have developed my teaching methodology in a neat way to accommodate for the fact I am unable to hear anyone. This involves me going slower, breaking things down more, and repeating and, crucially, asking for a ‘thumbs up’ on screen before continuing to the next section of the class.

The classes will not be crammed full of people, and are for between 3 and 8 people. This means that I can easily keep my eye on all of you and you’ll not be left to struggle on your own.

Each class will end with an opportunity for any questions. Working in a group can be so rewarding as you’ll often hear the answers to questions that you didn’t realise you had!

There are fewer interruptions and distractions from others’ noodling, as happens with in-person group classes! On the plus side, online, you can noodle away to your heart’s content because nobody can hear you!

Personal benefits

Having your classes on a fortnightly basis gives you an incentive to practice regularly and with a specific focus.

Being in a group with others provides additional motivation and support as you get to know your fellow classmates.

People have reported feeling less nervous about online group tuition, knowing they can’t be overheard. It’s very much time for you to play along with as you wish.

Class Blocks

Schedule & frequency

Classes will be 1 hour each, scheduled fortnightly over 8 weeks. There will be a break of 2 weeks between each teaching block to allow for personal work and assimilation.

I am aiming to deliver 5x 8 week blocks of classes across the year with no classes scheduled from the end of July through August to allow for festivals, holidays, child care etc.

You can choose to sign up to each class block separately or subscribe to an annual membership.

Who are online group classes for?

Classes are provided for improvers, intermediates and advanced players depending on where you’re at along your Melodeon Journey. For further details on levels, please see this page of my website.

Current Block: Block 1

Interested but unavailable?

If you’re interested in online group classes but these dates and times don’t suit you, please get in touch to register your interest.

Currently there is only one class running at each level but I am willing to start extra classes as long as there are a minimum of 3 people willing to commit.

How online group melodeon classes work

Are you ready to enter ‘The Melodeon Zone’?

Group classes will be delivered live via Zoom, with class recordings, resources, and handouts being provided in an online space I’ve called ‘The Melodeon Zone’.

You’ll have private access to this space via your user account which you will create during sign up at checkout.

Recordings will be available for you to go back and rewatch as often as you like for lifetime access.

Have your say about what gets covered in class

Once you’ve signed up, don’t forget to get in touch with me to let me know what sorts of topics you’re looking to explore next year. I want everyone to feel able to have their say and that way I’ll be able to tailor these classes with everyone’s needs and goals in mind.

Also, don’t forget to put the class dates and times in your diary! I will be in touch nearer the time with further information regarding the class plus a Zoom link.

If you have any further questions about any of the above, you can check out the dedicated online group classes section on my FAQ page, or please, get in touch with me where I’ll be happy to help.

Replay and repeat on-demand

After each class, the video recording will be uploaded to The Melodeon Zone – a private space on my website which you’ll access via your user account (created when you sign up)

Tried, tested and treasured

In March 2020 when the world stopped, I was asked to run some online group classes for the North East Melodeon Group. I’d never run group classes online before but they worked so well for everyone and the feedback was great.

This prompted me to set up my Patreon Melinars, and I moved my in-person Halsway classes online throughout the pandemic from March 2020-July 2021 before handing in-person classes over to Archie Churchill-Moss.

What others have said about online group melodeon classes

Here are some testimonials from students I have taught in online group classes.

Mel's Melodeon Club at Halsway Manor logo

“Having your workshop video to look at (again and again) has been really helpful. The ability to go over your teaching points to practice is terrific. Being able to revisit certainly helps to clarify and ensure each part is looked at in detail. Thanks for this – very very helpful.”

Neil

Halsway Manor Melodeon Club student

“I think the content on your Patreon site is very generous. I find this way of learning suits me perfectly as I can progress at my own pace and stop and rewind the recording when I need to. It also induces much less anxiety…!”

Helen

Member of Mel’s Angels on Patreon

“This is only the second workshop of yours that I have attended, but I think that your style of teaching is outstanding… I’m very grateful to the NE melodeon group for introducing me and I suppose I just wanted to say thanks, because you’ve taught me a lot – even if you didn’t realise it!”
