A mixed ability one-day workshop tailored to get you thinking about the sound you’re making
Earlier last year I decided to organise my first ever one-day workshop. I felt there was a gap in the market for a melodeon workshop series that got participants thinking about the sound they’re making and how they might be able to craft and hone it. It was clear to me that the main aim of the day should be to have fun doing something out of the ordinary with your instrument that will leave participants happy, more confident and smiling having put new ideas into practise. Each event should be centred around a different theme that is explored through a series of exercises and small ‘break-away’ focus groups. Inspired by my own learning journey, I wanted it to have a focus on discussion, sharing and having the freedom to try out new things without fear of ridicule.
After a sell out event in Winster in October 2017, Thinking Outside The Box is back! TOTB II will focus on dynamics, air and bellows control. We will explore playing loud and quiet and all that’s in between. In this edition you will discover the art of bellows control, air button use and the ability to play quietly (yes, it is possible!) You’ll take away new tools that craft feel, texture, rhythm and aural variety into your music.

ABILITY LEVELS: beginners, improvers, more experienced players. This event is not suitable for absolute beginners although the North East Melodeon Playgroup (19/05/18) can accommodate you if you wish to stay over to the Sunday.
LUNCH: not included in price but we can order in from the pub just down the road or you can bring your own.
ACCOMMODATION: There is the possibility of staying at the Scout camp until Monday morning. Camping or dorm room style. Low cost. TBC.
